One of the largest villages of Mon district, this is a highly interesting place. The Angh’s house here lies half in India half in Myanmar. Even though the village lies in two countries, the entire village is ruled by the chief.
The villagers have a dual citizenship. The natural beauty is immense as a total of four rivers flow through the village, two in India and two in Myanmar.
How to reach

The nearest Airport is Jorhat (Assam), which is about 161 km (by bus) to Mon. But, there is no direct bus service available. One has to reach either Sonari or Simulguri first and then proceed to Mon from here.
There are no train and air services to Mon. However, one can come up to Bhoju railway station (Assam) and then proceed to Mon via Sonari. Bhoju to Sonari is about 7 km. Another train route option available is to reach Simulguri. Since there is no direct bus service from Simulguri to Mon, one has to go to Naginimora first and then proceed to Mon.
Mon can be reached by bus from two routes. They are via Sonari in Sibsagar district of Assam) and via Simulguri (Assam). Mon district headquarters can be reached via Sonari by bus. It is about 65 km from Sonari to Mon. Mon can also be reached via Simulguri, which is about 95 km by bus. But, there is no direct service from Simulguri to Mon. One has to reach Naginimora (under Mon district) first, which is about 20 km. From Naginimora, bus service is available to Mon district headquarters (75 km).
Interesting facts.

The villagers don’t require a visa to cross the borders; in fact, they can roam freely in both the country. How cool is that! As quirky as it may sound, some of the households have their bedroom in India and kitchen in Myanmar.
There are around 27 Konyak villages on the Myanmar side. If you happen to visit this place, you will also be able to experience the joy of hoping borders
People of Longwa

Hospitable Naga people will welcome you once you set foot in this Northeast state. Some locals from this village are even enrolled in the Myanmar Army. The locals of Konyak tribe excellent collectors of enemy skulls and have been known for being headhunters.

Some families in the village still own brass skull necklaces, which are symbols signifying that they have been part of battles and have taken these heads during those battles. As per their belief, head hunting brought prosperity and helped boost crop fertility. This tradition of headhunting, however, gradually stopped in the 1960s with the rise of Christianity.

‘The Angh’ is the hereditary king or chief of Longwa village. An interesting fact—the Angh has 60 wives and rules more than 70 villages, which is extended up to Myanmar and Arunachal Pradesh.
